Product Photography

Welcome and Welcome Back to those of you that follow the Tripod Diaries. This past week again was again crazy with photography. I never seem to have to time for a shoot, post processing, and posting a blog with out another appointment or photo shoot or 3 rolling on top of one another. So here is a quick post about product photography that is straight forward and simple.

My friend Dan Boland does a great job painting Mosaics with Acrlyic Paint, and I told him that he needed better photos then his Iphone to show them off. He came out this past weekend for product photography, to shoot the breeze, and most importantly get some shred sledding done (skateboarding).

The set up I used was a two hot light set up, seemless white paper backdrop, and my camera mounted on a tripod. The Acrlyic was very reflective which made it very difficult to photograph. Moving the paintings, lights, and even adding a polorized filter wasn't going to work. After a good hour of wrestling the light I finally decided that if the reflection is going to be there to just minimize it. I used umbrellas to even things out, moved the lights as far back as I could, under exposed everything, and then brought it back up in the post processing.

After all was said and done Pumpkin Head (Boland) was happy, and we then proceded to skate two parks in the same day.

If you like what you see and are interested in purchasing or having a custom mosaic made by Dan Boland, please feel free to contact me via email at Jurphotographer@gmail.com and request Bolands contact info. He also has a show coming up where you can see his work on display in Davis, Ca.

Thanks again for stopping by, and please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you may have.
